A Day of Hiking in the Porcupine Mountains

5 hours from the Mackinac Bridge, this scenic loop is the perfect welcoming to the Porky's. You'll see it all along the way, from secluded lakes to lost bridges. This loop is pulled together by a collection of smaller trails that lead from one landmark to the next, so be sure to have it mapped out.

  1. Beaver Creek

  2. Little Carp River

  3. South Mirror Lake

  4. Summit Peak

20 min from 5 mile loop

This one is more of a self guided adventure. You’ll find this is a pretty touristy overlook with parking at the landmark. With that said, it is quite the view and there is area to travel off of the main path to find a more private spot to take it in.

40 mins from Lake of the Clouds

Rocks and water pose a fun yet risky adventure. If you are up for it, these waterfalls bring some great whitewater action and your hike will lead you to the open shoreline of Lake Superior.

Hacking Site Trail:

This one is a bit off the map, but an absolute must if you're in for a more challenging hike followed by a breathtaking award. Plug in the following coordinates into your map:

46.663106, -89.558831

and turn onto the dirt road that heads East. If you are heading North on 64, you'll turn right. Take it all the way down until you spot a trail head titled Hacking Site Trail (it's a few miles). Follow the white blazers up the trees until you're near the top, then pick up the blue blazers. You'll find yourself enjoying your view on the side of the mountain when you're finished. You can expect a steeper climb down!
